In 2014, Alexandria Imani Burgos attended Wilbur Wright College where she was a freshman working to complete her studies to become a Social Worker. She wanted to work at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center and help underprivileged children who were caught up in the criminal justice system.
Tragically, her family and our community lost an innocent 18-year-old due to a senseless act of gun violence when Alexandria was struck down by a stray bullet. “As a mother, I still don’t believe that my daughter is gone, it is a gap that leaves a hole in my heart”, says her mother, Ms. Burgos. The family wants to turn their heartbreak into something positive to help others. To honor Alexandria’s memory, they have established the Alexandria Imani Burgos Scholarship at Wilbur Wright College.
This scholarship will benefit students whose goal is to become a social worker and others who have ambitions and dreams. We want to help keep Alex’s memory alive by raising funds for the scholarship.
